In his World Communications Day Message for 2009 Pope Benedict XVI challenged all the faithful to bring the witness of faith to the digital world by sharing the values on which we have built our lives to this new culture and environment of Internet communication.
The Holy Father wrote, “In the early life of the Church, the great Apostles and their disciples brought the Good News of Jesus to the Greek and Roman world. Just as, at that time, a fruitful evangelization required that careful attention be given to understanding the culture and customs of those pagan peoples so that the truth of the gospel would touch their hearts and minds, so also today, the proclamation of Christ in the world of new technologies requires a profound knowledge of this world...”
Our parish website intends to do several things. First, to proclaim to our culture the greatest gift we could ever imagine; that Jesus who suffered, died and has risen is Lord. Second, to share the joy of the new life Jesus offers those who believe as we worship him in the celebration of the sacraments, especially in the Sacrifice of the Mass. To come to know him more intimately in study, prayer and service. And third, to share with one another the priorities and opportunities which help to build us into a community of faith committed to the Catholic Tradition in all its fullness.
The Lord commanded the Apostles, “Set out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch!” (Luke 5:4) We pray this new Saint Colman of Cloyne digital “net” which we set out today in the deep of the World Wide Web will provide a great catch for Jesus and his Church.
